Busy Bees Western Heights provides a nurturing and cosy environment for children to learn and grow. Our spacious outdoor play area boasts plenty of real, natural grass and we are proud to offer the opportunities for our children to explore natural outdoor environment. We also keep worm farms and grow vegetables in our very own centre garden. Our centre facilities with specialized rooms help ensure that children receive personalized attention and care that supports their growth and development, including rooms specifically for infants, toddlers, and young children. Conveniently located next door to Western Heights Primary School, in Rotorua, we offer excellent care and education for local families in the community.

Our qualified, experienced teachers are warm, nurturing and fun,  Their passion for bi-cultural education and professional knowledge of teaching, guides our tamariki to engage in challenging experiences suited to each unique learning and development stage.

Excursions are a favourite among our children, so we involve them in range of outings that are both fun and educational. We take the local bus to the library, relevant shops, the nearby park or local school to support our current learning focus.

Our inhouse cook provides freshly made meals for children each day using our Nourish menus and recipes, based on the New Zealand Heart Foundation Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award for Early Learning Centres. We believe that through nourishing food, children are fueled to thrive physically and mentally, whilst enjoying the benefits of coming together and connecting as a group at mealtimes.

Teachers also do regular baking with the children, which provides them opportunities to engage and learn a range of food preparations skills and fine motor movements such as pouring, sifting, spooning. It is a great hands on sensory experience for children to develop independence through self-help skills, practice simple maths as they measure and count quantities.

We are committed to follow the aspirations of the New Zealand National ECE Curiculum, Te Whāriki. Te Whāriki envisages kaiako in early learning settings working in partnership with parents, whānau and community to realise this vision. The expectation is that, in their early years, children will experience a curriculum that empowers them as lifelong learners.
